As the production and use of lithium batteries has grown, their governing regulations have as well. Stay in compliance with our products and services tailored to shippers and handlers of lithium batteries.
The U.S. DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) has created a new how-to guide for shipping lithium batteries in PDF format: Shipping Batteries Safely by Air; What you need to know. It describes the regulations for the classification criteria, packaging requirements, and hazard communication of batteries shipped by air. Also reference IATA's guidance document regarding shipping lithium batteries by air.
DefinitionsThe term "lithium battery" refers to a family of batteries with different chemistries, comprising many types of electrolytes and cathodes.
- Lithium metal batteries are generally primary (non-rechargeable) batteries with different chemistries, comprising many types of electrolytes and cathodes. Lithium metal batteries are normally used to calculators, cameras, power watches, etc.
