The March 2010 edition of the 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Regulations (Parts 100-185) is now available.
The primary goal of the 49 CFR is the safety of the public and those whose occupations involve handling and transporting hazardous materials. To minimize risks, the US DOT has issued specific requirements for shipments and are divided into 4 general areas:
- Hazardous materials identification and classification
- Hazard communication – shipping papers, markings, labels, and placards are used to communicate hazards of the materials being transported
- Packaging requirements
- Operational rules
