{"id":2300,"date":"2013-12-30T08:00:29","date_gmt":"2013-12-30T12:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/regulatory.blog\/?p=2300"},"modified":"2022-01-18T12:27:58","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T17:27:58","slug":"imdg-code-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/help-center\/articles\/imdg-code-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"IMDG Code Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>Amendment 36-12 of IMDG code finalized<br \/>\nJust in time for the Holidays<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IMO\u2019s Maritime Safety Committee has adopted Resolution <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.ca\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CDwQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imo.org%2FKnowledgeCentre%2FIndexofIMOResolutions%2FDocuments%2FMSC%2520-%2520Maritime%2520Safety%2F328(90).pdf&amp;ei=8tWpUr-CCJTioAS3w4KADQ&amp;usg=AFQjCNHROtxJpuQvPA8vfL1hgqm8fRj1zA&amp;sig2=ilAy89dYrcRXB4_09fdhFw&amp;bvm=bv.57967247,d.cGU\">MSC.328(90)<\/a> finalizing Amendment 36-12 which updates the Volumes 1 and 2 of the 2012 IMDG version. These changes become mandatory January 1, 2014.\u00a0Implementations can be made in part or in whole on a voluntary basis from January 1, 2013 thru December 31, 2013. Amendment 36-12 includes revisions, and additions required for shipping specific substances. In particular, Part 7- Transport Operations has the most substantial changes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the key changes are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stowage and segregation provisions including rules separating Cargo Transport Units (CTU) and Vessel Types (7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, and 7.7)<\/li>\n<li>Foodstuffs segregation rules have eliminated the categories \u201caway from\u201d and \u201cseparated from\u201d and now have specific storage distance requirements (3.0 meters) when Class 8 or Class 6.1 substances are being transported in the same CTU. (1.2.1)<\/li>\n<li>Keep away from heat has now been changed to \u201cProtected from sources of heat\u201d (7.1.2). Specifically this indicates a distance of 2.4 meters away from heated ship structures.\u00a0 Also there is mention of protecting CTU\u2019s stored on deck, from direct sunlight requiring them to be shaded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10 new UN Numbers have been added to the Dangerous Good List and include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UN 3498 Iodine Monochloride Liquid (a red liquid that reacts violently with water)<\/li>\n<li>UN 3499 Capacitor (articles intended to store electrical energy)<\/li>\n<li>6 new substances under UN 3500 Chemical Under pressure NOS, (Liquids, pastes or powders, pressurized with a propellant which meets the definition of a gas)<\/li>\n<li>UN 3497, Krill meal\u201d since krill meal has a chemical composition that is significantly different from that of fish meal<\/li>\n<li>UN 3506, Mercury contained in manufactured articles<\/li>\n<li>New section for Lithium Batteries has been added. (2.9.4)<\/li>\n<li>Limited Quantities of Class 8, PG II, shipped in glass or fragile inners require rigid intermediate packaging (4.1.5)<\/li>\n<li>Explosives categories have been reduced from 15 to 5, with new stowage requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/pdf\/qi200e-dec2013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Errata and corrigenda for IMDG Code (inc.
