{"id":734792,"date":"2021-03-22T07:00:50","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T11:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/?p=734792"},"modified":"2025-09-08T01:03:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:03:44","slug":"when-its-more-than-dangerous-goods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/help-center\/articles\/when-its-more-than-dangerous-goods\/","title":{"rendered":"When it\u2019s more than Dangerous Goods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-858410 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ICC_ShippingDG_Blog_3-2021.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1001\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One thing a shipper quickly learns is that there is more to sending a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/packaging\/4gv-boxes-variation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dangerous goods package<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> than simply the package preparation and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/forms\/shipping-by-sea-declaration\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">paperwork<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The logistics of getting the package where you want it is another factor altogether! For an air shipment, you have to consider if there is a cargo plane that goes to that destination; if there is not, and you have to use a passenger airline, the quantities you can ship will be greatly reduced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another factor to consider is whether door-to-door delivery is an option. Often, to your customer\u2019s dismay, the only option is door-to-port.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When shipping by ocean, you have to plan well in advance to get a booking. The ocean liners have to ensure, in advance, that they can follow the numerous segregation rules found in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/publications\/imdg-code\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IMDG regulations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. From a dangerous goods perspective, the shipping paper needs to include the elements outlined in Chapter 5.4 of the IMDG regulations. Keep in mind there is no set format, only set information. Once the dangerous goods are listed, it would look something like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-858411 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ICC_MoreThanDG_001.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1139\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You are done, right? Wrong. The ocean liners want additional information for their planning purposes. Look at all of the required additional information; not only gross or net mass but also BOTH, and you also need to include the dimensions for the skid(s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-858412 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/ICC_MoreThanDG_002.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1135\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When planning your next dangerous goods shipment, think about all of the other things that have to be considered.
