The solutions used in the testing kits do contain some chemicals that can pose potential health risks. Following an increase in calls to Poison Control Centres, Health Canada has issued a public advisory regarding the testing kits.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s important to note, that when used properly the kits are safe and a good at-home tool to help ease the spread of Covid-19. However, if accidental ingested or spilled, they may be harmful.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The two notable hazardous ingredients in most kits are Sodium azide and Proclin. These chemical preservatives can be poisonous if swallowed or absorbed through the skin, and have the potential for causing skin and eye irritation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If you look at a Safety Data Sheet for Sodium azide, the health risks are clearly laid out. Research into the chemical classifies it as acutely toxic if swallowed, inhaled or on skin, and with risk of causing damage to several organs through single or repeated and prolonged exposures.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thankfully, the quantities of these harmful ingredients in COVID-19 testing kits are small, however, even small quantities may cause effects in young children and pets.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Here\u2019s what <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/recalls-rappels.canada.ca\/en\/alert-recall\/rapid-antigen-test-kits-and-potential-exposure-hazardous-substances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health
