What is Adequate Training?<\/h2>\n

Companies who ship higher-powered lithium batteries must be trained in the regulations.<\/p>\n

By ground, that would mean meeting the requirements under Subpart H of the 49 CFR regulations<\/a>, Part 6 of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation<\/a>, the IATA Regulations<\/a> for air, and\/or the IMDG Regulations<\/a> for ocean.<\/p>\n

What is a high-powered battery?<\/h3>\n

For lithium-ion batteries, a cell has a watt-hour rating of 20 or more, and for a battery with a watt-hour rating of 100 or more.<\/p>\n

For lithium metal batteries, a cell has a gram content of 1 or more, and for a battery, a gram content of 2 or more.<\/p>\n

What about lower-powered lithium batteries?<\/p>\n

Lower-powered batteries are:<\/h4>\n

Lithium-ion batteries, a cell with a watt-hour rating of less than 20, and a battery with a watt-hour rating of less than 100.<\/p>\n

For lithium metal batteries, a cell has a gram content of less than 1, and for a battery, a gram content of less than 2.<\/p>\n

The regulations say the usual \u201cformal\u201d training is not required. Rather,\u201d adequate instruction\u201d is required when shipping Section II (lower-powered). What does that mean exactly?<\/p>\n
