Just when you think you\u2019ve got the latest edition figured out, changes can happen. That\u2019s exactly the case with the <em>66th edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)<\/em>, which has now been updated with a formal <strong>addendum<\/strong>\u2014effective <strong>April 30th, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using an <strong>electronic copy<\/strong>, good news: these updates are integrated automatically. But if you rely on a <strong>printed version<\/strong>, it\u2019s critical to download and print the addendum and place it at the front of your book. Many airlines are catching up by adjusting packaging and handling instructions. Changes include:\n<ul>\n<li>Updates to <strong>Packaging Instructions 952 and 966<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Addition of <strong>Special Provision A199<\/strong> to the sodium ion battery entry<\/li>\n<li>Revisions to <strong>Table 9.1.A<\/strong> to reflect sodium ion batteries contained in equipment, and updates to button\/coin cell entries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>New UN Numbers<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>UN 3423<\/strong> \u2013 Tetramethylammonium hydroxide, solid<\/li>\n<li><strong>UN 1835<\/strong> \u2013 Tetramethylammonium hydroxide, solution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Operator Limitations<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Some airlines now prohibit transport of certain <strong>corrosive substances<\/strong> and <strong>explosives<\/strong>. Examples include <strong>European Cargo Limited (SE)<\/strong> and <strong>Sky Furth Regional Airlines (RV) has been removed all together<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Battery State of Charge Clarification<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The phrase <em>&#8220;batteries at a state of charge not exceeding 30% of their rated capacity&#8221;<\/em> has been <strong>removed<\/strong>. This signals a shift in how state of charge is to be interpreted or communicated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>State Variations<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chile<\/strong> now requires <strong>Safety Data Sheets (SDS)<\/strong> for all international shipments entering the country.<\/li>\n<li>The previous requirement for SDS to be in <strong>Spanish<\/strong> has been removed.<\/li>\n<li>Update to appendix D.1 updates to contact information of competent authorities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Final Thoughts<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n<p>IATA updates its regulations periodically to correct errors, clarify existing rules, and introduce new requirements.
