CSA Seeks Comments on Updated Portable Tank Standards<\/h2>\n

Involving the public in updating regulations is crucial for developing policies that serve everyone effectively.<\/h3>\n

By seeking input from stakeholders, community members, and those directly affected, policymakers gain valuable perspectives and practical suggestions that can help improve the regulations.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, The CSA Group has announced the completion of the newest edition of The CSA B620 \u2013 B622 dangerous goods standards and is looking for public comments. These standards contain requirements on the selection and use of highway tanks, TC portable tanks, and other large containers across Canada for the transportation of dangerous goods, Classes 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, and 9.<\/p>\n

What is the CSA and What is this Standard?<\/h3>\n

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a global organization focused on safety, social responsibility, and sustainability. Its mission is to improve the lives of Canadians by advancing standards across both public and private sectors.<\/p>\n

One of these standards, CSA B620<\/strong>, outlines the requirements for the design, construction, certification, assembly, modification, repair, testing, inspection, periodic re-testing, maintenance, and marking of highway tanks (tank trucks) and TC portable tanks used to transport dangerous goods. It also sets the criteria for Transport Canada\u2019s registration of facilities, design review agencies, design engineers, and training organizations that perform work covered under the standard.<\/p>\n

Within the TDG Regulations, you\u2019ll find references to these standards at Section 5.10<\/strong>, where it states that a means of containment complying with the CSA B622 standard is permitted for transporting Class 2 dangerous goods by road or ship. In addition, CSA B622 also invokes CSA B620<\/strong> in section 5.10 in relation to highway tanks (tank trucks and trailers) and TC portable tanks.<\/p>\n
