No phone number. Easier compliance.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>On June 17, the Government of Canada published amendments to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/publications\/canadian-tdg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations<\/strong><\/a> in the Canada Gazette, Part II. One of the most welcome changes is the update to the lithium battery mark, bringing Canada into closer alignment with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/publications\/iata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations<\/strong><\/a>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/publications\/us-49-cfr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">49 CFR<\/a><\/strong>, and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product-category\/publications\/imdg-code\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IMDG Code<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Two Important Changes to the Mark<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The amendments introduce two important changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The minimum size of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecompliancecenter.com\/ca\/product\/lb-usi6606\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>lithium battery mark<\/strong><\/a> has been reduced from 120 mm \u00d7 110 mm to 100 mm \u00d7 100 mm.<\/li>\n<li>A telephone number is no longer required on the lithium battery mark.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>What Does This Mean for Your Existing Labels?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Many companies already have a supply of lithium battery marks printed with a telephone number and measuring 120 mm \u00d7 110 mm. The obvious question is: Do they need to be thrown away?<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, no.<\/p>\n<p>The amendments include a 12-month transition period, allowing you to continue complying with the previous version of the TDG Regulations.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Using Labels During the Transition Period<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>During this transition period:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Labels with a telephone number may continue to be used for up to 12 months from the coming-into-force date of the amendments.<\/li>\n<li>Oversized labels (120 mm \u00d7 110 mm) that do not include a telephone number may continue to be used even after the transition period, as they exceed the new minimum size requirement of 100 mm \u00d7 100 mm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Our Recommendation<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>If you still have labels with a telephone number, use up your existing inventory during the 12-month transition period.<\/p>\n<p>When ordering new labels, purchase the 100 mm \u00d7 100 mm lithium battery mark without a telephone number. The smaller size makes it much easier to fit all required marks and labels on smaller packages where space is limited.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Simpler and More Flexible Compliance<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This amendment simplifies compliance, harmonizes Canada&#8217;s requirements with international regulations, and gives shippers greater flexibility when marking packages containing lithium batteries.<\/p>\n<h3>Contact Us<\/h3>\n<p>Do you have any questions about shipping lithium batteries? He then continued to serve as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a firefighter, where he completed a diploma in Fire Science\/ Fire-fighting from Memorial University and Occupational Health and Safety diploma from the University of New Brunswick. Lastly, in his career with the Canadian Forces, he served as a member of the Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU) as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Operator (CBRN Op), part of the Canadian Special Operation Command (CANSOFCOM).
