Requirements When Shipping Lithium Batteries

Lithium Battery Labels

A mark and a label are required for shipments of Lithium Batteries.

Lithium Battery Mark

This lithium battery mark is used for lithium batteries (under Section IB or Section II of Packing Instructions 965, 966, 967, 968, 969, and 970, and Section IB of Packing Instructions 965 and 968). It must display the applicable UN# (*) and a telephone number (**) for additional information.

Class 9 Label for Lithium Batteries

Lithium batteries that do not qualify for the exceptions (under Section IB, or II of Packing Instructions 965, 966, 967, 968, 969, or 970) must be shipped as Class 9 dangerous goods and meet extensive requirements and display the class 9 lithium battery label.
